VIEWPOINTS TECHNIQUE
FOR THE BOLD ACTOR

Led by Kat Walsh

December 14th, 2025
6-10 PM at Theatre NOVA

Viewpoints is an improvisational training system that develops an actor’s awareness of their body in relation to time and space, using these elements to create meaning on stage. It offers a shared vocabulary for ensembles, encouraging collaboration and freeing performers to take risks and make bold, imaginative choices. The Six Original Viewpoints were first identified by postmodern choreographer and theatre artist Mary Overlie through her process of deconstruction, and were later expanded and applied to theatre-making by directors Anne Bogart and Tina Landau as a method for devising and staging new work.

In this course, Kat Walsh will introduce participants to the fundamentals of Viewpoints, adapting the curriculum to meet the familiarity and skill level of those registered. The practice is done barefoot and emphasizes full physical engagement; participants should dress comfortably for a wide range of movement. The class requires a minimum of ten students and can accommodate up to twenty.
